In significant efforts toward bridging the digital divide, the Government of Guyana, with support from UNDP Guyana Country Office, is leading an ambitious endeavor to empower underserved populations by enabling access to information technology communication infrastructure, and improving access to internet connectivity and public e-services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ICT Access and e-Services for Hinterland Poor and Remote Communities (HPRCs) Project aims to address the  challenges faced by indigenous communities in digital connectivity. With strong focus on inclusion and bridging the digital divide, the project aims to provide the infrastructure (ICT Hubs), and associated hardware and software needed to enable connectivity, which are  vital for education, health, social and economic development. Complementarily, significant efforts are geared towards building the capacity of local communities to effectively utilise the ICT infrastructure services provided for community development and economic improvement. By leveraging technology, the project seeks to enhance the quality of life for residents in these communities, ultimately adding to the nation’s contribution towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNDP\u2019s Commitment to Partnering for the Goals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the executing party in this collaboration, UNDP Guyana is committed to working closely with the Government of Guyana and hinterland communities to help ensure the successful implementation of the ICT access and e-services for HPRCs Project. The participatory approach adopted emphasizes collaboration with various partners, including community organizations and local governments, to ensure that the solutions implemented are tailored to the needs of each community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sustainability is another major focus. The ICT Hubs are powered with clean energy provided through photovoltaic systems. These solar-powered systems are especially vital in areas with limited or unreliable access to the national grid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fostering ownership and sustainability ensures that the benefits of the project continue long after its completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Achievements and Future Directions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project has already made significant strides, with advancements in connectivity that have begun to transform the way communities access education, health services, and economic opportunities. By establishing reliable internet connectivity,  access is improved for online learning, telemedicine, and digital entrepreneurship, among other e-services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking ahead, the project will focus on scaling these initiatives to reach even more communities. Connectivity is just the first step, or just one step; equipping residents with the skills and knowledge to navigate the digital landscape is equally important. Comprehensive and structured training programs are being delivered to empower individuals with digital literacy and hub management skills, enabling them to fully leverage the opportunities that technology offers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ICT access and e-services for HPRCs Project represents a pivotal moment in Guyana\u2019s journey towards inclusive development. By harnessing the power of ICT, not only communities are being connected but also a sense of belonging and engagement in the digital world is being fostered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNDP Guyana remains dedicated to its mission of supporting the Government of Guyana in creating an inclusive environment where all citizens, regardless of their geographic location, can thrive in a digitally connected society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
